The Minnesota Vikings are under new front office management, hiring former Assistant General Manager of the Seattle Seahawks: Nolan Teasley.
Teasley is a shift from the previous regime, where the Vikings Front Office had an analytics-first approach. Now, Teasley brings in a more scouting, personnel first focused approach. He has quickly risen through the ranks, and has been deemed one of the hottest up and comers in the league by his peers.
Teasley will have his hands full with finding and drafting young talent, and retooling the roster. After more than a few years of poor drafts and talent evaluation, the Vikings are changing gears, mandating a draft-first team building approach.
The Vikings have been infatuated with John Schneider, and how the Seahawks have built and ran their organization. Now, they went and grabbed his right-hand man, and looking to just not adopt the Seahawks management style, but their success, too.
Teasley was a part of two Super Bowl winning rosters, and was an integral piece in building and identifying talent for the championship winning roster this past season. Now, he can become the man to accomplish something many before him have not.
Jump ahead:
Teasley’s Background

Nolan Teasley has been viewed as an up-and-coming star in the NFL over the last couple of years, especially in the pro-personnel evaluation world. League surveys have him listed as a top talent evaluator, and many have listed Teasley as a top, or the top, candidate for a GM job in the next cycle:

Even though the Vikings took a nontraditional hiring route this Summer, they may have landed the top candidate and got ahead of next year’s cycle.
Teasley has only spent 13 seasons in the NFL thus far, but his football experience goes back into his youth, where he played the game later in his childhood. At the age of 11, he started playing tackle football as a running back. He played all the way through his Junior year at Central Washington University, before he decided to focus more on school and his education.
In 2007, Teasley graduated from CWU with a degree in Marketing. He took the typical post-graduation route, getting into the business world immediately upon graduating. He spent the next six years as a marketing and public relations professional. However, during those six years, he discovered that football was where he wanted to be, and he decided to take a chance on a career change.
In 2013, he officially joined the Seattle Seahawks as an intern in their scouting department, not long after he wrote a letter to all 32 GMs in the NFL, expressing his interest and drive to work in football.
John Schneider, the General Manager of the Seattle Seahawks, once started his prestigious NFL career as an intern back in 1992, and ultimately decided to give Teasley the opportunity to show his skills. Schneider has been known to take risks, both, with players on the field, but also on the staff that evaluates those players.
The gamble was more than worth it, and it not only benefitted the Seahawks, but Teasley as well. The Seahawks won the Super Bowl in 2013, Teasley’s first season working in the NFL, and that was only the beginning.
In 2014, he got offered a full-time gig, joining the Seahawks as a Pro Personnel Scout. He made a quick impression, and his rise quickly accelerated soon after the first few years. He was a pro scout for three seasons before he got promoted into a leadership role within the scouting department.
In 2017, Teasley became the Assistant Director of Pro Personnel, where he spent one season before getting a title upgrade to Director of Pro Personnel. He would go on to lead pro scouting for the next five seasons before he became Schneider’s right-hand man.
Since 2023, Teasley has been the Assistant General Manager of the Seahawks, and played an integral part of building up the 2026 Super Bowl winning roster. With all of the work and skills he’s developed, it was only a matter of time before he got the chance to lead an organization on his own.
What To Expect

Since 2021, the Vikings have taken a analytics first approach, led by Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. This included both in the pro and rookie markets. Now, Teasley brings in a more traditional scouting background and approach, more closely aligning to a traditional NFL front office.
The Vikings are familiar with this GM style, as former long-term GM, Rick Spielman, was a scout in his early-football career. However, Teasley’s experience and approach will not mimic Spielman.
What we should expect from Teasley is a more modern-personnel driven approach. Meaning, the new FO of the Vikings will not just use traditional scouting as their grail, but will accompany analytics into their decision making. Teasley brings a blend, albeit more on the scouting and personnel side, which is a modern approach, adopted by many successful teams today.
While under Schneider’s wing, Teasley did more than just pro personnel scouting, he was responsible for:
- Overseeing football operations
- Collaborated on all talent acquisition, including:
- Draft
- Free agency
- Trades
- Manage player development in partnership with team’s Performance team
- Review and leverage metrics and analytics during the scouting process
- Manages communication between all major scouting departments
While he had a major focus on the draft and scouting departments, he wore many hats and played an integral role as a high ranking member of the Seahawks.
What does that mean for the Vikings? Teasley immediately takes over leadership of all personnel and scouting departments, and I would not be surprised to see an overhaul in these areas in the coming weeks. With Rob Brzezinski returning to his previous role, and focusing on operations, Teasley will come in and be the lead man on all personnel changes and evaluations moving forward.
The Wilfs have been adamant about having a collaborator lead the Front Office since the KAM days, and Teasley will be responsible for the communication and collaboration between the scouting, personnel, and coaching staff while in Minnesota.
With KOC at Head Coach, Rob back in lead on a more Ops focused role, and now Teasley, the Vikings have strong leadership across the board. It’s happened before, but it is setting up to be another “triangle of authority”.
Team Building
The Seahawks have been a top team in terms of talent and record since Teasley joined as an Intern, going 126-78-1, with three division championships and, of course, this year’s Super Bowl.
How have they continued great success, even after the departure of the Legion of Boom? This is where the excitement for Teasley stems from. The Seahawks have been one of the best organizations in the NFL at identifying and gaining talent through the draft and pro market. The Seahawks were able to successfully rebuild and retool, even after having one of the greatest defenses in NFL history. They’ve had continued success, strengthened by strong drafting and pro player evaluations, direct proof of what Teasley is capable of.
Since Teasley got promoted to Assistant GM, the Seahawks have drafted many impact players, including:
- Devon Witherspoon
- Charles Cross
- Kenneth Walker
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba
who all played a major role in bringing the Lombardi back to Seattle. These are just a few examples of the high day one and two draft picks in recent years.
The Seahawks have done a great job of gaining depth through the later rounds of the draft, too. A few late round additions include:
- Tariq Woolen, 5th round
- Abraham Lucas, 3rd round
- Coby Bryant, 4th round
- AJ Barner, 4th round
and many more pieces who have brought great depth to the roster. The depth has shown through long portions of the season, as the team hasn’t missed a beat when a starter gets injured, or if a rotation comes into play.
This is the area where the Vikings desperately need the most help, and Teasley will need to work his magic to add depth to a team that has been too top heavy the last few seasons.
The NFL Draft is where teams are expected to draft their top contributors and stars, and the Seahawks and Teasley have nailed this. However, they have been excellent in player acquisition through the pro market, too. The Seahawks have found great value and impact through free agency and trades, that have bolstered an already strong roster.
Many of the pro market moves have been around maximizing value and complimenting their scheme. Not all of these moves have been earth shaking, either. Yes, they have made splashes, including trading and re-signing Leonard Williams, but most have been around finding strong value.
A few examples of this include trading day two and three picks for value, including:
- Rashid Shaheed
- Ernest Jones
- Beau Stephens
These names aren’t blockbuster worthy, but each guy complimented the roster perfectly, and made impacts, including the most exciting way to start a football game.
Oh, and how can I forget about them bringing over an old friend of ours, who just completed the greatest career turnaround in NFL history.

The Vikings have been busy in the trade and pro market in recent seasons, and that should not change with the welcoming of Teasley. KAM did a solid job of finding value players, but did not make the best in-draft trades. With Teasley seemingly playing a top role during roster construction over the last few years in Seattle, I expect the continuation of value-enhancing moves in the pro market, and an improvement in draft-day trades.
The Seahawks have been one of the best teams to build through the draft, sticking to their scheme, and rewarding their home grown talent. The Vikings have many home grown stars already, giving Teasley a bit of a head start on roster construction. Now, he needs to take the same principles he learned under John Schneider’s tutelage, and deepen this roster.
He has a chance to do what no man has done before: bring a Lombardi to Minnesota. The clock starts now.
Final Thoughts
Personally, my top pick for the job was John McKay from the Rams. However, Teasley was a close second, and with him being an outsider, he can bring in new perspectives, and a new staff to help elevate a stagnant organization. The Vikings have not won a playoff game since KOC was hired in 2021, although they’ve made significant investments into the roster.
A new man in charge was more than needed after a disappointing 2025 free agency class, and multiple years of shallow draft classes (excluding this year’s class). The Vikings desperately needed to rip the bandaid off and start fresh, now it’s up to Teasley to make significant personnel and assistant changes, and complete the overhaul of the Vikings personnel program.
I’ll be watching out for those moves over the next few weeks. OTAs are getting close to wrapping up across the league, where the NFL will be transitioning into a prep for training camp and the 2026 season mode. While most changes happen in early February through March for Front Office moves, the Vikings have the opportunity to revamp their FO prior to the start of the season.
With Rob Brzezinski remaining loyal to the purple and gold, and KOC seemingly locked in for the foreseeable future, the Vikings have a highly respected and high potential leadership group with the addition of Nolan Teasley. The Wilfs are confident this trio will help deliver the first Lombardi to the great state of Minnesota, it remains to be seen if they can accomplish what feels like the impossible.
